What if data could be a tool for everyone, not just experts? That's the driving question behind Hyper-AI, a new project that aims to revolutionise big data analysis applications across emerging industrial sectors.
We sat down with Dr. Iakovos Michailidis, a postdoctoral research associate at the Center for Search and Technology Institute (Hellas, Thessaloniki) and a key contributor to Hyper-AI.
"The ambition of Hyper-AI is to develop a framework to host data-intensive processing," Dr. Michailidis explains. "The applications are coming from different industrial sectors."
But what does that mean in practical terms? Hyper-AI aims to create a system that can handle massive amounts of data from various sources by orchestrating available network resources. It's designed to work across industries, from energy and manufacturing to biotechnology and agriculture.
"The idea of the Hyper-AI solution is to abstract available resources of the cloud continuum, cluster them dynamically, opportunistically, and manage the lifecycle of these clusters," says Dr. Michailidis. This translates to a smarter, more efficient way to process and analyse data.
The potential applications are vast. In manufacturing, Hyper-AI could optimise production lines and improve efficiency. In agriculture, it could help farmers make better decisions about water use and crop management. It could even aid in the prediction and management of pandemics by processing large amounts of health-related data.
But what sets Hyper-AI apart is its focus on accessibility. "The goal is to ease the definition of data-intensive applications for even non-developers," Dr. Michailidis emphasises. "Everyday people like industrial sector workers can define applications using our platform, and our full-stack platform is going to manage the execution of this application in a hybrid distributed manner."
In other words, Hyper-AI aims to put the power of big data analysis applications into the hands of people who don't have advanced technical skills, while maximising the synergies between the available cloud and edge resources. This could democratise data-driven decision-making, opening up new opportunities for innovation and problem-solving across industries while minimising the requirement for network infrastructure investments.
