How can advanced research in artificial intelligence move beyond prototypes and become solutions that industry can adopt and scale? This was the central theme of the joint webinar “Turning Cognitive Computing Continuum Innovation into Value: Key Exploitable Results from Horizon Europe Projects”, held on 24 March 2026 and organised by ENACT.

The online session brought together leading Horizon Europe initiatives from the Cognitive Computing Continuum portfolio (including HYPER-AI, CoGNETs, EMPYREAN, MYRTUS, and SWARMCHESTRATE) to present their most mature results and discuss how these can translate into real-world impact. Rather than focusing solely on technical depth, the webinar emphasised exploitation pathways, adoption potential, and long-term sustainability across Europe’s digital ecosystem.

From Research to Real-World Value

For HYPER-AI, the webinar provided an opportunity to showcase how the project is advancing hyper-distributed AI across the cloud–edge–IoT continuum, enabling more efficient, scalable, and adaptive data processing.

Representing the project, Michael Loukeris (NKUA) presented HYPER-AI’s approach to managing complex distributed infrastructures through autonomous computing swarms, networks of intelligent nodes capable of dynamically collaborating and optimising resources in real time.

At the centre of the presentation was one of HYPER-AI’s key exploitable results: the ResoMatic framework. This solution addresses a critical challenge in today’s digital landscape, the complexity of developing and deploying applications across fragmented and heterogeneous cloud, edge, and device environments.

Simplifying the Computing Continuum

ResoMatic introduces a unified and user-oriented framework that enables interoperable and vendor-neutral deployment of distributed applications. By reducing integration complexity and lowering technical barriers, it makes advanced cloud–edge–IoT orchestration accessible to a broader range of users, including developers, SMEs, and industry stakeholders.

The framework supports key capabilities such as automatic node discovery, modular integration through open connectors, and a simplified development environment that allows applications to be deployed and managed across diverse infrastructures. In doing so, it helps reduce vendor lock-in while improving scalability and flexibility.

This approach reflects a broader shift in the field: as AI systems become increasingly distributed, the ability to coordinate resources efficiently across environments is becoming as important as the intelligence of the models themselves.

Strengthening the European Ecosystem

Beyond individual project contributions, the webinar highlighted the importance of collaboration across European initiatives. By bringing together complementary approaches and technologies, projects within the Cognitive Computing Continuum are collectively building the foundations for next-generation digital infrastructures.

For HYPER-AI, participation in this joint initiative reinforces its commitment to open, interoperable, and scalable solutions, aligned with Europe’s ambitions for digital sovereignty and innovation leadership.

As the project progresses, the focus will increasingly shift towards demonstrating impact through real-world use cases, platform developments, and exploitation activities, ensuring that research outcomes evolve into sustainable and widely adopted solutions.
