"Work Package 6 is a peripheral work package," Sanchez explains. "It kind of grabs all of the other technical packets in the Hyper-AI project." This means that Work Package 6 is not focused on a single task, but rather on ensuring the security and integrity of the entire system.
One of the core focuses is on "making sure that communication is safe." To achieve this, the team is exploring innovative approaches, including distributed ledger technology similar to blockchain, and enabling users to encrypt their data with private keys for enhanced security.
In addition, Work Package 6 is developing an intrusion detection system that leverages AI techniques to identify and mitigate security threats. They are also working to enhance the performance and security of federated learning tasks, a machine learning technique that allows for collaborative model training without sharing raw data.
The biggest challenge, according to Sanchez, is the heterogeneous nature of the Hyper-AI ecosystem. "You have many different machines working in the continuum, and you have to make sure that the communication among them is secure," he emphasises.
To address this, Hyper-AI is leveraging standardised formats and techniques that promote interoperability. This approach ensures that different components of the system can work together seamlessly, regardless of their origin or underlying technology, while maintaining a high level of security.
The work being done in Work Package 6 is essential to the success of Hyper-AI. By ensuring data security, privacy, and interoperability, the project can unlock the full potential of AI and data-driven innovation across a wide range of industries.
